The original God of War is fantastic for
a lot of reasons, the most notable being its high level of violence and its gameplay,
which is very much a mixture of old meets new. David Jaffe and his very talented
team of developers managed to create this awesomely fantastical world populated
by swarms of imaginative creatures and a bad ass with a penchant for destruction,
which is why we're eagerly anticipating God of War II. The game isn't coming out
until next February, but after walking through a rather lengthy demo we're salivating
at the chance to wrap our blood-stained hands around a PS2 controller.

For those who've been glued to the Internet any time that anything pertaining to
God of War II has popped up, we're excited, too. As the time draws closer to Kratos'
next splatter-laden adventure, the anticipation only builds. Yesterday, we received
a package in the mail from Sony. Peering in, we immediately surmised that only one
game could wean the office off of Crackdown, and it was indeed inside that envelope.
With that in mind, we got as much work done as possible, since we knew that the
God of War II build would dry out our eyes. Indeed it did.

While the PlayStation 2 is showing its last signs of life, it still has one very
big trick up its sleeve. The original God of War was a unanimously praised title,
and one that easily ranks as one of the greatest action games ever released (and
my personal favorite). Sony's Santa Monica Studios managed to perfectly blend Greek
mythology with its own lead character and storyline to create one of the most intimidating
characters ever to hit a console. With God of War II, Kratos is set to take a break
from his throne and rein dominance upon the gaming world once again.

Kratos just can't catch a break. You'd think after killing Ares, earning the wrath
of the gods, attempting to kill himself, and ascending the throne as the next God
of War, the guy would get a chance to take a breath, sharpen his magical blades,
and, you know, kick it with some wenches. No such luck. Not long after the updated
God of War II demo that landed on our desk today opens up, Kratos finds himself
in the city of Rhodes duking it out with one of the seven ancient wonders of the
world. But we're getting ahead of ourselves. Let's back it up a bit first.

God of War 2 Peview From 1UP
The much talked about new God of War 2 demo arrived at the office this morning,
so of course we jumped right in, eager to see if this new Colossus of Rhodes battle
that kicks off the game is as exciting as we'd heard. The verdict? Yep, but you
can check that all out on video, so let's get into some of the best moments from
the demo. There may be a few spoilers in here if you care about that sort of thing,
but all of this is based on the first 15-20 minutes of the game, so don't worry
about any heavy story stuff.
